OUR GOD IS A GOOD FATHER.
In Genesis 3, the bible talks about how God made Adam and Eve and kept them in the garden of Eden. He left everything in there under their control except for one tree, and that was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He asked them not to touch or eat from that tree, or else they will die.
However, the devil being as crafty from the beginning of time, stepped-in in the form of a serpent, deceived Eve, Adams wife. He did this by discounting what God has said about the tree of life and death. The woman yielding to the devil’s deceit, ate from that tree and did not only stop there, she also went ahead and persuaded her husband and gave her a fruit from that same tree. They both disobeyed God and ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Immediately after eating the fruits, just as God told them, something died from them. Their innocence died; they began to see the world in a different way. They suddenly realized they were naked. God noticed what they’ve done, he called them, but they hid from God. God rebuked them because they had disobeyed him; they listened to the devil instead of God. God put some punishment on the serpent, the woman and the man.
After everything, one would have thought God would leave them to cater for their nakedness, after all it was their fault that they were in that condition. But no, that is not the God that we serve, He is a good God and he never forsakes his children, even in our sins, he still cares for us. The bible says in chapter 21 that, “The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”
The point here is, God was not happy with their actions, but didn’t affect his love for them at all. He was still concerned about them and hence the reason for making them clothes to cover their nakedness.
Friends, that is the goodness of our heavenly father, he never keeps records of our bad deeds. The very moment we realise our mistakes and pray to him for forgiveness of sins, he forgives us straight away. That is why the bible says in 1 John 1:9 that, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Halleluiah!
God’s love for his children have also been explained in Luke 15:11-32; the story of the prodigal son. Here, the bible talks about a wealthy man who had two sons. One day, the youngest one asked his father to divide his property and give him his share. His father did as he requested and gave him his part of the property. He then went away and led a wayward life until he had squandered all the money and property. He later ended up in a pigs’ pen where he ate with the pigs.
This explains exactly how the devil works; he comes to deceive believers and makes them feel like there is a good life in his kingdom. However, once he’s got you under his captivity, he tries to destroy your life with all sorts of troubles, hardships, sicknesses and all others in life. This is because, he knows once you are in God, the presence of the Holy Spirit protects you and as such no evil sent your way can harm you. But, if he can draw you to himself, then he can do whatever, he likes to you. But thanks be to the Almighty God, his arms are always open to embrace us, whenever we realise that we are lost, and thus take that bold decision to run back to him.
The same way, when the lost son realized his mistakes and returned home, his father embraced him, gave him good clothes to wear and celebrated him. And the bible explains that, this is exactly how the angels in heaven celebrate when one soul turns away from their sins and runs to God.
I know that the devil will always try to use thoughts of condemnation to keep you from going back to God. Thoughts like, “Your sins are too much for God to forgive you.” But that’s just the devil’s way to continue to keep you in bondage and defeat.
And even, after taking that bold step to God, the devil will always come back whispering thoughts of your past mistakes, just to condemn you and your new life in Christ. This is when you need to stand your grounds and hold on to what the scriptures says about condemnation. There is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1) Not only this, there are also other verses in the bible that talks about freedom in Christ.
It is my prayer that we live our lives boldly and happily, knowing that our heavenly father does not hold our mistakes against us at all. AMEN!
