1 Thessalonians 5:17; Pray without ceasing.

We all love to pray a lot when we are going through some form of adversity. And the main reason is, because we are not happy with the situation and we want to get out of it quick. The question then is, do we have to stop, when we’ve got our prayers answered? The answer will be a big No. As a Christian, prayers should be one of the most important aspects of our lives. It is a way we communicate with our creator and connect with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is our source of strength, energy and power and if we allow ourselves to be disconnected from Him, then we are leaving ourselves for destruction. Because that is the devil’s main aim; to steal, to destroy and to kill. Sometimes, we feel, we are waiting for that trouble to come before we take our prayer lives serious. However, the truth is, if we are serious now, that might prevent, troubles and misfortunes from coming our way. That’s why the bible encourages us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17; to pray without ceasing. When Jesus came on earth, he prayed all the time, he was doing this to set a good example for us, as to how serious we should take our prayer lives as believers.

Praying constantly helps clear the way for God to constantly reveal certain things about our lives to us.

Praying constantly helps clear the way for our God to constantly reveal certain things about our lives to us. Once you become a believer, the devil immediately starts seeing you as an enemy. Maybe he had you in some kind of bondage, and now seeing that you have been freed, he is obviously not happy. Mostly, the devil works tirelessly trying to take captive of your soul, like he did before. However, we have no reason to worry, because the God that we serve is bigger and mightier than any form of attack that will be sent on us by the devil. The reason why it is very important for us to have a good connection with God, our protector. We may not notice it always, but as believers our paths are being ordered by God. Sometimes, God does this by putting ideas in our minds. Hence, the reason why we have a strong feeling to go this way and not go that way, to take this step and not to take that step.

Occasionally, God also uses the bible to guide and direct us. The bible is the word of God and his Spirit leaves in his word as well. Therefore, reading the bible is also another strong way to connect with the Holy Spirit. Sometimes reading the bible on its own is prayer. There are a lot of prayers in Psalm and many other books in the bible. David puts it this way in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” That is why as every believer, it is extremely necessary for us to take time to study the word of God, just like we do for our prayers and going to church. Also, through our studies of the bible, we get to know certain authorities God has given to his children and hence help us develop our faith more. For the bible says in Hosea 4: 6; “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” For us to know certain things about our relationship with God, we need to constantly study the word of God.

For every believer, our main weapons are prayer and the word of God.

Some people might also feel, they have not been praying and their lives are going on smoothly. Everything is going on well. Their health is good, their business is booming, their homes are good, etc. The fact is, the devil hates to see people happy, so if everything is going on well, you still need to pray for God’s protection so that his blessings upon your life will continue to prevail. One thing is, the devil is very sneaky with the way he attacks believers, that’s the reason why one day, everything will be going alright for you and just a matter of days, things can turn instantly, that is the work of the devil.

Therefore, my dear friends in the Lord, let us not wait for the devil to attack before we arm ourselves. Let us arm ourselves everyday of our lives, for we do not know when the devil will attack. And as believers, we know what our weapons are; prayers and the word of God. The bible also confirms this in Ephesians 6: 11-12; “ Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggles is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

It is my prayer that, no matter how tight our daily schedules maybe, we make time to connect with our God through prayers. AMEN!
