WORRYING STEALS OUR JOY!
Philippians 4: 4-7; "Rejoice in Lord always. I will say it again Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
This verse and a lot more verses in the bible talk about not being anxious and not worrying about anything. There is a reason why the bible stresses on not worrying about anything. There are a number of negative effects worrying can have on us as believers.
Worrying can affect our faith in God, thereby hindering some of the blessings our God has for us. When we worry, we are focusing on reasons why our prayers cannot be answered and when we do that it limits God's blessings in our lives. For prayers to be effective, there should be an element of faith, not worrying.
Additionally, in times of difficulties, worrying can make us feel defeated in our minds. And when we do that, it gives the devil the chance to actually defeat us. Since his main target is to cause us to feel defeated in our thoughts.
Also, worrying can limit our creativity. Our creative skills help us in many aspects of our lives. It also helps us to take good and effective decisions. Unfortunately, when we worry, we fill our minds with negative thoughts, thereby cluttering our mind space. This can affect us in the way we think and do things and overall affect our decision making.
Furthermore, worrying can cause us to stress which can affect our health in a lot of ways. Worrying drains us of the energy we need to pursue our dreams, and this can restrict how far we can go in life.
Lastly, worrying can steal our joy. When we worry too much, we tend to focus all our attention and thoughts on our problems. This alone can make a little problem look very big in our minds and as a result make us unhappy. As psychologists say, what we focus our thoughts on, we encourage it to grow in our minds.
The question then is, "how can we stop ourselves from worrying?" Because it feels like we live in a world where the devil is constantly targeting believers with all forms of adversities.
There are a lot of verses in the bible that encourages believers in times of troubles and adversities. Examples are John 16: 33, Proverbs 3: 5-6, Psalm 34: 17, Isaiah 41: 10, Psalm 9: 9-10, Joshua 1: 9, James 11: 2-4, 1 Corinthians 10: 13, James 1: 12 and many more. It is my prayer that we learn to stand on the word of GOD in difficult times, so we grow in our faith instead of worrying. AMEN!
